1. PG Diploma in Legal Process Outsourcing (PGDLPO) (online)
This programme is offered in association with Rainmaker,Mumbai. The Legal Process Outsourcing course aims to train law graduates in the existing legal practices predominantly useful for LPO industry in India. It aims to satisfy needs at two levels: at the employee level, to aid law graduates, to enhance their employability and the industry level, to assure quality of prospective recruits. The LPO industry requires law graduates those who are familiar with the conventional and emerging areas of laws. This course is open to any law graduate or final year LL.B. Students from a recognised university
2. Post Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights (PGDIPR)
The Post Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights has been developed by the School of Sciences in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Geneva. Currently this programme is shifted to School of Law. The objectives of this programme are to disseminate information on national and international IPR issues, create IPR consciousness among scientists, professionals, academicians, government officials, entrepreneurs and other members of the society, and familiarize the learners about the documentation and administrative procedures relating to IPR in India. Any graduate from a recognized university can take this programme. This Diploma of one year duration comprises 8 courses with total worth of 32 credits.
3. Post Graduate Certificate in Cyber Law (PGCCL) (online & distance mode)
School of Law, IGNOU is offering the Post Graduate Certificate in Cyber Law form July, 2008 academic session through two modes Virtual Education in Law (VEL) Open Distance Learning (ODL). The main objective of the programme is to enable learner to acquire critical understanding of cyber law and the emerging social and intellectual property issues. It also aims to develop competencies for dealing with fraud and deception by using cyberspace and to give learners in depth knowledge of Cyber law and legal framework, Right to Privacy, Data Security and Protection. The qualification for this programme is graduate in any discipline or Five year law integrated students can take admission in this course.
4. PG Certificate in Patent Practice (PGCPP)
Patent is the most significant form of Intellectual Property to encourage creativity in science and technology and protect invention and development and creation of new technology and business expansion throughout the world. The objective of the Programme is to provide learners in-depth knowledge of the Indian patent law, training in writing of patent application, and to develop expertise in patent search. This programme is offered in collaboration with Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). This course is open to those with Degree in Science/Technology/Medicine, Law and Fourth & Fifth year students integrated LL.B. Course who passed three years. Learners with experience in dealing with patents and technology transfer will be preferred. It is of 16 credits and comprises of four courses.
5. Diploma in Paralegal Practice (DIPP)
Paralegal work entails providing assistance to aggrieved individual/groups in accessing legal procedures for seeking legal remedies. A paralegal is a person who assists in the delivery of legal services.
This programme aims to give basic information on legal rights and how the existing legal system can be used to protect them, to develop functional understanding of laws that affect individuals in their everyday life, to develop elementary skills in accessing legal and judicial institutions and processes, to enable individuals to use public advocacy.On successful completion of the programme, the student will be able to seek employment in any State/ Non-State organization working in the field of protection of Human Rights, Legal Aid Centre, Government Departments responsible for enforcement of social legislations and NGOs working for realization of socio-economic rights.
6. Certificate Programme in Human Rights (CHR)
This programme is meant to sensitise professional groups, e.g. police and army, primary school teachers, NGO functionaries, etc. on issues relating to Human Rights. The course is open to those with 10+2 or its equivalent or BPP from IGNOU. This 16 credit programme has the following three courses:

7. Certificate in Consumer Protection (CCP)
The certificate course in Consumer Protection has been developed by School of Social Sciences and currently it is shifted to School of Law. This 16-credit programme aims at creating an overall awareness of and training on Consumer Affairs with special emphasis on Consumer Protection. After completing this programme, the learner can work as consumer activist in the industrial sector, with NGOs and government departments on consumer affairs. The course is open to those with 10+2 level of educational qualifications. The programme consists of two courses and a project work.
Programmes under development
1. PG Diploma in Legislative Drafting
The important objective of this programme, inter alia, is to enable the learner to acquire sills and knowledge:
* To understand the principles of Legislative Drafting,
* To know the process and Techniques on Legislative Drafting and other legal instruments and
* To learn the principles and rules of information.
It also aims to enhance the drafting skills of various legal documents on the participants. The programme will be offered from January, 2010.
2. PG Diploma in Criminal Justice
The objective of the Programme is to keep pace with emerging thought and developments in criminal justice, both in India and in the global arena and to create well-informed citizens and professionals in the area of criminal justice. It also aims to enhance the competencies of the professions already working in the various areas of criminal justice system in India. This course is offered to graduates in law, criminology, social work and functionaries of Criminal Justice, Administration to upgrade their skills, knowledge and awareness. This Diploma Programme will be offered from January 2010.
3. PG Diploma in Mediation
The prime objective of this programme inter-alia is to develop professionals in the field of Meditation, promote the abilities to understand the principles governing mediation and enhance necessary skills to understand the process and techniques involved in the Mediation Process.This programme aims to minimize or reduce the huge backlog of cases pending before various courts by enabling the aspirant to become competent to settle the cases without going to court by adopting the techniques and process of Mediation.
Faculty
Prof. Srikrishna Deva Rao, Director
Prof. Rao is currently the Professor and Director of School of law, IGNOU. He worked with three National Law Schools in India; Bangalore, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad in addition to a short stint at Jawaharlal Nehru University and University of Delhi. Prof. Rao is founding faculty of National Law School Hyderabad and Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar and contributed to the development of academic and research Programmes. He was a consultant to Indian Medical Association (IMA), Swedish Development Cooperation (SDC), Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT), Child Rights and You (CRY), Swedish National Science Foundation (SNSF) The area of specializations include Criminal Law, Human Rights, Community Legal Education and Law, Science and Technology.
Prof. K. Elumalai, Professor
Prof Elumalai joined School of Law on 15 May, 2008. He holds Bachelors and Masters Degree in Law from Delhi University and Ph.D. from Srikrishnadevaraya University, Andhra Pradesh. He also holds Masters Degree and Master of Philosophy in Economics from Madras University. Prof. Elumalai worked as Professor of Law at Vaikunth Mehta Institute of Corporative Management, Pune, from 1992-2008. Prior to this he worked with a public sector bank as Economic officer for a decade. He specializes in Consumer Protection, Banking Law, Cooperatives and Cyber Law Human Rights. He assisted in drafting of cooperative law for three north-eastern states. He has written five books. His book on "Cooperative Legal System" is a prescribed text book for students of XIIth Standard for vocational courses. His recent books "Consumer Protection Act and Banking Service with Digest of Case Laws" and Seth's Banking Regulation Act and allied Banking Laws (co-authored) were published by law publisher (India) Pvt. Ltd. Allahabad.
Ms. Suneet Kashyap, Lecturer
Ms. Suneet Kashyap joined IGNOU on 17th November, 2005. She holds Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Law and PG Diploma in Distance Education. She has passed JRF in Net Examination 2004. She worked as a Lecturer in the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata from October 2004 to November 2005. She is working for her Ph.D. on 'Refugee Law'. She specializes in Criminology.
Ms. Gurmeet Kaur, Lecturer
Ms. Gurmeet Kaur joined IGNOU on 7th November, 2005. She holds Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Law from Delhi University. She is a gold medalist in LLB. She is working for her Ph.D. on Insurance Liability and Compensation to the Victims of Road Accident. Before joining IGNOU she taught for one year at Delhi University.
Mr. Anand Gupta, Lecturer
Mr. Anand Gupta joined IGNOU on April 2006. Mr. Anand holds LLB and LLM from Lucknow University. He worked as Lecturer in Lucknow University and in a law college for three years.
Ms. Manasi Sharma, Lecturer
Ms. Mansi Sharma joined IGNOU on 8 May, 2008. Ms. Sharma holds BA LLB (Hons.) from Lucknow University with Distinction in 11 subjects and LL.M first rank from Banaras Hindu University. She worked as Lecturer in Lucknow University from 2006- 2008. She has passed UGC Net Examination 2006. She specializes in Human Rights, Environmental Law and Criminal Law. She is enrolled for LL.D from Lucknow University. She has been awarded with President Award as a guide at School Level.
